Summa summa summatime! It’s keto cocktail time! In case you haven’t noticed, I am loving tapping into my old bartending skills and mixing up low carb cocktails this summer. This Low Carb Strawberry Basil Bourbon Smash leaves me with sunshine on the brain. It is the perfect refreshing low carb cocktail for a hot summers day. I like to make a pitcher of these, fire up the grill and invite friends over for a low carb barbecue. These go great with my Keto Barbecue Dry Rub Ribs and a side of mock potato salad and dill pickle coleslaw (all three of those recipes can be found in my book Craveable Keto)

I have been asked time and time again if it is okay to drink alcohol on a low carb diet. While I don’t think the answer is necessarily a one-size-fits-all approach, I think with a little creativity, and some moderation, you can easily work the occasional low carb cocktail into your keto lifestyle. This Low Carb Strawberry Basil Bourbon smash is super simple to make and only takes ingredients that you likely already have in your home. Not a fan of bourbon? This is also great with rum or vodka. I also like to add a little fizz to it and top it off with some club soda. It just makes it that much more refreshing! Now you can enjoy all the best low carb drinks, all summer long!

Description

I love keeping my home bar stocked with all the tools I need to pretend I am a master mixologist. I love this home bar set up.

Ingredients

3 strawberries, hulled and sliced
3 basil leaves
1 teaspoon powdered erythritol (I use this brand)
2 ounces bourbon
1 ounce fresh lemon juice
pinch of ground black pepper

Instructions

Fill a large rocks glass with ice.
Combine the strawberries, basil, erythritol, and bourbon in a cocktail shaker. Muddle until the strawberries and basil are crushed and have released their juices.
Add the lemon juice and pepper, and fill the cocktail shaker with ice. Cap and shake.
Strain the contents of the cocktail shaker over top of the ice in the rocks glass.
Garnish with a strawberry slice and a basil crown.

Description

Make the art of mixology even easier with one of these home bar sets. They are inexpensive, don't take up a lot of space, and make mixing cocktails at home a breeze.

Ingredients

10 fresh cranberries, extra for garnish
2 teaspoons powdered erythritol, more to taste (I use this brand)
2 ounces dry gin
2 lime wedges, extra for garnish
1/2 ounce (1 tablespoon) fresh lime juice
2 ounces prosecco

Instructions

Fill a large rocks glass with ice.
Combine the cranberries, erythritol, gin, lime wedges, and lime juice in a cocktail shaker. Muddle until limes and cranberries are crushed and have released their juices.
Strain the contents of the cocktail shaker over top of the ice.
Top with prosecco and garnish with cranberries and a lime wedge.

Description

Traditional Golden Milk recipes do not have espresso. I am just a big fan of coffee, so I decided to take a tradition turmeric tea (Golden Milk) and turn it into a frothy, and delicious latte. But the espresso is completely optional. This drink is amazing with or without it. I have provided instructions for how to make it with or without.

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups unsweetened coconut milk (I use So Delicious)
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (I use this brand)
1/2 teaspoon turmeric (I use this brand)
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger (I use this brand)
pinch of black pepper
pinch of Himalayan pink salt
2 shots espresso, optional
1 teaspoon erythritol, more to taste, optional (I use this brand)

Instructions
With an espresso machine:

Add the coconut milk, or almond milk to the milk steaming pitcher. Add the vanilla extract, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, pepper, and salt. Stir to mix, and use the steamer wand to heat and froth the milk. This will fully incorporate the spices into the coconut milk.
Pull 2 shots of espresso from the machine and pour them into a mug. Top with golden milk, and sprinkle cinnamon and turmeric on top. Stir in erythritol, to taste, if using.

A More Traditional Take on Turmeric Tea Golden Milk:

Add the coconut milk, vanilla, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, pepper, salt, and erythritol, if using, to a medium sauce pan over medium heat.
Whisk to combine all ingredients. Heat until the golden milk is hot, but not boiling.
Garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon and turmeric before serving.

Description

All the delicious flavors of a classic Shamrock Shake without all the sugar and carbs. Your tastebuds and your waistline will thank you!

Ingredients

1/2 medium avocado
1 scoop dairy free vanilla protein powder (about 30g) (I use this brand)
1/2 cup Silk Almond Coconut Milk
8 ice cubes
1/8 teaspoon peppermint extract (I use this brand)
5 drops natural green food coloring (optional for color) (I used this brand)
2 tablespoon coconut milk whipped cream (optional)
1 tablespoon sugar-free dark chocolate chips (I use this brand)

Instructions

Combine the avocado, protein powder, almond coconut milk, ice, peppermint extract and food coloring in a blender and pulse until blended and creamy.
Top with dairy free whipped cream and sugar-free chocolate chips, if using.

Notes

Net Carbs: 2g

Food Coloring: If using food coloring for this recipe, opt for a natural food coloring, free of artificial dyes. I linked to one in the recipe, but you can also tint this drink green by using a little organic matcha powder or even chlorophyll. It is deep green in color and already has that minty fresh taste.

Ingredients

2 ounces vodka
5 fresh blackberries
¾ ounce fresh lemon juice (1 ½ tablespoons)
2 teaspoons powdered erythritol (I use this brand)
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
5 fresh mint leaves
Soda water

Instructions

Fill a large rocks glass with ice.
Combine the vodka, blackberries, lemon juice, erythritol, black pepper, and mint leaves in a cocktail shaker. Muddle until the fruit and mint are crushed and have released their juices.
Strain the contents of the cocktail shaker over top of the ice.
Top with soda water and garnish with blackberries and a fresh mint leaf.

Muddles everything, pour, top with soda water

2 tablespoons peanut butter powder (get it here)
1 scoop dairy free vanilla protein powder (about 30g) (I use this brand)
1 ½ cups So Delicious Dairy Free Organic Almondmilk 

Instructions

Combine all ingredients in a blender and pulse until smooth and creamy.
